Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established in 2007 within the body of our university. The aim of our faculty is to raise individuals who produce knowledge on a universal scale, who have broad horizons, who are entrepreneurial, productive, who understand the principle and operation of science, who contribute to the development of society and who think critically. Our faculty includes History, Turkish Language and Literature, Sociology, Philosophy, Western Languages and Literatures departments. A total of 58 academic personnel, including 2 Professors, 11 Associate Professors, 20 Doctoral Faculty Members, 6 Doctor Research Assistants, 3 Lecturers, 16 Research Assistants, work in our developing Faculty.

The aim of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature is to examine and make innovative researches on the language-based, artistic, cultural and literary products of Turkish Language and Literature from past to the present and to convey them to future generations, and to train expert researchers and educators in their fields by establishing relations with different cultures. The department, which offers both daytime and evening undergraduate education programs, is composed of five major sub-departments: New Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Language, Old Turkish Language and Turkish Folk Literature. Students who successfully complete the undergraduate program consisting of compulsory and elective courses become Turkish Language and Literature undergraduate graduates.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Students who graduate from our department can continue their postgraduate education and become research assistants, lecturers and experts at universities, or they can take pedagogical formation training and work as teachers in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, private schools and private teaching institutions. Depending on their abilities, graduates can also become copywriters, advertisers, editors, publishers, proofreaders, programmers, presenters, or they can also work in various fields of work such as teaching in presenter courses and proofreading.

The aim of our department is to teach historical events that have affected humans as social beings, starting from ancient times up to the present by considering and examining them together with phenomena such as politics, economy, religion and art. General Turkish History and the History of the Republic of Turkey, as well as other histories and cultures around the areas formed by these histories, have a profound and a special place in the programs of the Department of History. . Within this framework, sciences such as economics, law and sociology, which will help the historian gain the ability to analyze past events, are also included by introducing the source documents and their research methods that contribute history to become a more comprehensive science. Among the aims of the department, to educate historians who can challenge classical patterns in history education and who can follow contemporary, scientific, technological and cultural changes so that they can deepen their knowledge. It is aimed that the historians we graduate will not be those who only convey their scientific knowledge in the field; it is aimed as well to provide them education which will enable them to the experts historians, who can produce new information and interpretations in their field, to give them the sense of responsibility in contributing the development of the society
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates, who take a certificate of pedagogical formation, can work as history teachers or lecturers at universities. They can also work in such various institutions and organizations as Ottoman archives, various ministries of the spate, State Planning Organization and treasury.

The Department of Philosophy aims at providing a scientific learning and research area for students where they realize the importance of respecting different views, become aware of their mental and cultural heritage, have the opportunity to widen their personal viewpoints, develop their self-awareness and analysis skills, discuss and re-discuss the historical roots of all forms of thought and evaluation that are effective in the formation of the contemporary world, compare them with the schools in the field of philosophy by conveying up to the present. It aims to provide an intellectual environment where they compare themselves with their existing, thus, freely explore new ways of thinking and evaluating as well as gaining a lifelong learning habit by better understanding themselves, their position in the universe and their relationships with other beings.

Sociology is considered as a discipline that explains important trends in society and that explores different and objective ways of thinking about the social world. The Department of Sociology is a department that carries out intensive research activities and aims to provide high quality education. Our department aims to run deep research activities and to provide a comprehensive and innovative undergraduate education in the field of sociology. Department of Sociology is placed in the university’s Hopa Campus and runs all its experience there.

Students, who graduate from the Department of Sociology, can find job positions within the category of technical services class in public institutions as well as having opportunity to work in many private organizations which serve the society or carry out social studies. The Department of Western Languages and Literatures has two different programmes: English Language and Literature and Russian Language and Literature. The Program of English Language and Literature started its undergraduate education in 2018-2019 academic year. students. The Program of Russian Language and Literature started its undergraduate education in 2022-2023 academic year after employing sufficient number of academicians who work both as instructors and researchers. The aim of our department can mainly mentioned as following: Teaching students Western languages, literatures and cultures, enable; equipping the language level of the students in a way that they can communicate in the foreign languages both orally and in writing,; and to provide our country qualified literary researchers for the future. For this purpose, we offer our students a versatile curriculum that includes courses such as European History, Russian History, Social Cultural Anthropology, History of Ideas, and Comparative Literature. Before starting the undergraduate program, the students with insufficient language skills are required to attend a preparatory class for one year.
